Glamour and fantasy take center stage at the Staley-Wise gallery in Soho, where Takouhy Wise and Etheleen Staley attempt to capture the elusive quality of style as represented in fine photography. With the works of Deborah Turbeville, Cecil Beaton, Herb Ritts, and Helmut Newton among many others the gallery represents a number of the masters of fashion photography, yet it also includes such diverse work as Hollywood portraiture, landscape, still life and classic nudes.
Staley-Wise, which opened in 1981 with an acclaimed exhibit of the brilliant Hollywood image-maker Horst P. Horst, unveils a new exhibition every 6 weeks. Past shows have showcased work that galvanizes and resonates with new audiences, including the spirited Jazz portraits of Bert Stern, David Gahr and Phil Stern, the haunting Dune landscapes of Kurt Markus, and Slim Aarons iconic images of the good life.
